Nels Nelson

Nels Robert Nelson of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of St. Ignace, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, in Tucson. He was 97.

He was born July 16, 1920, to Nels and Berdine Nelson in Marinette, Wisconsin.

Mr. Nelson was graduated from LaSalle High School in 1938.

He married Rose Ellen Zornes August 19, 1939, in St. Ignace.

Mr. Nelson served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was a corporal in the European Theatre.

He attended Glen Memorial Baptist Church in St. Ignace in the summertime. He was a member of the VFW Post in St. Ignace.

He is survived by a son and his family, Jim and Cynthia (nee Knutsen) Nelson of Tucson and Pinetop, Arizona; a daughter and her family, Jo Ann and Jerry Brohl of Wyandotte; a daughter-in-law and her family, Kay and Orville Nettifee of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Rose Ellen, who died in 2015; a son, David Nelson, who died in 2000; two sisters, Alice and Winifred, and three brothers, Norman, John, and Loren.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
