Pumpkin Roll To Be This Saturday

From a perch atop Goudreau Hill next to St. Ignace City Hall, children will have the chance to roll pumpkins to the bottom during the Great Pumpkin Roll Saturday, October 28. The event kicks off a day of Halloween themed activities in St. Ignace, which are open to children of all ages.

A tent will be pitched at the base of the hill near the St. Ignace Fire Department on North State Street, under which activities like free face painting will be held throughout the afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pumpkins will start rolling at 4 p.m. Each roll costs $1.

Participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, and awards will be given to those with the best costumes. Other activities will include guessing games, a candy walk, and a prop cutout board for photographs. Inside the fire hall, the Mackinac Grille will be handing out hot chocolate, lemonade, and cookies.

Proceeds from the Pumpkin Roll will be donated to the St. Ignace Saints Wrestling Team. Wrestlers and Coach Richard Cullen will be volunteering again this year, catching pumpkins at the bottom of the hill, hauling the pumpkins back to the starting area, and selling tickets.

St. Ignace parent Amanda Garlock and the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce are organizing the event.

After the Great Pumpkin Roll, the 14th Trunk or Treat Celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn and Big Boy parking lots on US-2 in St. Ignace. Those wishing to pass out candy should decorate their vehicles and do not have to register before the event to participate.

A Haunted Woods Walk will be held after Trunk or Treat in the woods behind the parking lot from 7:30 p.m. to 30 minutes after dark. The haunted woods cast features the Glen Memorial Baptist Church Saints Alive Youth Group and students from LaSalle High School.

Music for both events will be provided by Gary Engel of G-Man Entertainment.
