Volleyball Districts Underway; Football Playoffs Continue

Volleyball Districts are underway this week. In Class C, St. Ignace faces Harbor Springs in District 93 at Harbor Springs, Wednesday, November 1, beginning at 6 p.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of Manistique and Inland Lakes Friday, November 3, at 6 p.m. The District 93 champion will play in the Gladstone Regional Tuesday, November 7, through Thursday, November 9.

In Class D, Cedarville hosts District 123. The Trojans played in the opening round match against the Pickford Panthers Monday, October 30, losing in four sets. Pickford will now face Maplewood Baptist Wednesday, November 1, at the completion of the opening match, featuring DeTour and Mackinac Island. Action begins in Cedarville’s John Duncan Gymnasium at 6 p.m. The winners of those two matches will play for the district championship Thursday, November 2, at 7 p.m.

Engadine is hosting District 124, featuring the Eagles, Rudyard, and Brimley. Engadine defeated Brimley in three straight sets Monday, October 30. The Eagles will face the Rudyard Bulldogs in the district final Thursday, November 2, at 7 p.m.

The Mackinaw City Comets kick off its Class D District against Harbor Light Christian, Wednesday, November 1, in district 122 hosted by Pellston. The winner of that match will face the winner of Alanson and Pellston, Friday, November 3, at 7 p.m. The winners of Districts 122, 123, and 124 will play in the Brimley Regional Tuesday, November 7, through Thursday, November 9.

In 8-player football, three Eastern Upper Peninsula teams are still alive and part of the final 16 teams. In Division 1, Cedarville (8-2) travels to Stephenson to take on the Stephenson Eagles (8-2), Friday, November 3. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. The winner will play in the semi-finals against the winner of Central Lake and Suttons Bay.

In Division 2, Engadine (8-2) will travel to play Crystal Falls Forest Park (7-2). Kickoff for that game is at 6 p.m. The top ranked Pickford Panthers

(10-0) will host Onekama (9-1) Saturday, November 4, at 2 p.m. The winners will play against each other in the semi-finals Saturday, November 11. Locations for semi-final matchups are yet to be determined.
