Charlotte Bruning


Charlotte Bruning Charlotte Bruning Charlotte June Bruning, 71, of Cedarville, passed away Wednesday November 1, 2017, in Gaylord, from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

She was born August 12, 1946, to Raymond and Della (nee Hancock) Fountain in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mrs. Bruning grew up in Pickford. She was graduated from Pickford Public School in 1964. She attended Patricia Stevens College in Wisconsin. After returning from college, she met Ernest Bruning, and they were married September 17, 1966, at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedarville.

She worked as a waitress for many years before working at the sewing center in Kinross. She also was employed as a bus driver for the Cedarville school district for 13 years. She then drove a special education bus at Sault Ste. Marie Schools for six years before retiring. After she retired, Mrs. Bruning spent much of her time at the family’s cabin on the water north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

She was a member of Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedarville.

Mrs. Bruning loved listening to music and dancing. She danced until she wore out her dancing boots. She enjoyed camping, cooking, crocheting, sewing, knitting, cake decorating, and flower and vegetable gardening. She loved interior design and also serving as a 4-H leader. She had been involved in 4-H since she was in the fourth grade, and was recognized as being a volunteer for more than 24 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest “Pep” Bruning of Cedarville; her mother, Della Fountain of Pickford; a daughter and her family, Luella “Elli” Lasley and Fred DeVuono of Sault Ste. Marie; a son, Drew Bruning of Cedarville; grandchildren, Dakota Swinton, Saige Bruning, Shelby Lasley, Zachery Lasley, and Austin and Shaylee Bruning, and a great-grandson, Carson Bruning. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law and their families, Kathy Fountain of Pickford, Nancy Bennett of Frederic, Elaine Grulke of Rogers City, and Betty Cole of Alpena, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bruning was preceded in death by a son, Dean Bruning; a brother, Richard Fountain Sr.; her father, Raymond Fountain; her father in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Loretta Bruning; seven brothers-in-law, Walter “Mick” Bruning, Arlo Bruning, Arnold Bruning, Ron Bruning, Ervin Grulke, Thomas Bennett, and Bill Cole, and two sisters-in-law, Rita Bruning and Judy Wrigglesworth.

Services were held Monday, November 6, at 1 p.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to time of the service.

Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Pickford.
