Joan Jeffreys


Joan Jeffreys Joan Jeffreys Joan Annette Jeffreys, 85, of Rudyard, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in Mackinaw City.

She was born June 9, 1932, to Robert and Jeanette (nee Corbeil) Wheeler in Chelsea.

Mrs. Jeffreys grew up in the Chelsea area. She attended and was graduated from St. Thomas Catholic School in Ann Arbor. She attended Cleary Business College in Ann Arbor.

Her sister introduced her to Joseph Jeffreys, and they were married December 6, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pinckney. Her husband left for boot camp in the United States Army the day after they were married, and then was deployed to Korea. After he completed his service, they made their home in Pinckney.

Mrs. Jeffreys worked at MacPherson’s Bank in Howell for a time, before their children were born. In 1974, they moved to a farmhouse in Rudyard, where their children completed school. She also worked for the Rudyard- Pickford Coop Credit Union, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Rudyard and the women’s group at the church.

Mrs. Jeffreys enjoyed sewing and quilting.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph of Rudyard; four sons and their families, Timothy and Brenda Jeffreys of Rudyard, Andrew and Rachel Jeffreys of Caledonia, Christopher Jeffreys of Sault Ste. Marie, and John and Tammy Jeffreys of Bellevue; a daughter and her family, Amy and Mark VanHaitsma of Falmouth; grandchildren, Christopher and Laura Jeffreys, Amanda Jeffreys, Joseph Jeffreys, Matthew Jeffreys, Joshua Jeffreys, Kyle and Hillary Jeffreys, Emily Jeffreys, Jordan Hoolsema, Ked and Christie Pomeroy, Nicolas Jeffreys, and Nathan Jeffreys, and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Adelynn, Aidrick, Aiken, Asher, Autumn, and Adalyn. She is also survived by a sister and her family, Sally and Don Proctor of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jeffreys of Pinckney and Coreta Jeffreys of Chelsea, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jeffreys was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Jack Jeffreys and James Patrick Jeffreys.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, November 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Rudyard.

Visitation was Monday, November 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford.

Burial was at North Rudyard Catholic Cemetery.
