Lois Roach

Lois Roach Lois Roach Lois Jean Roach of St. Ignace passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Covenant Healthcare of Saginaw, in the presence of her family. She was 83.

She was born January 10, 1934, to Clifford and Lena (nee Constantino) Lefler in Bay City.

Mrs. Roach was graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Michigan State University.

She taught in the Oscoda school system for 38 years before retiring. She then moved to St. Ignace and continued substitute teaching. During her more than 55 years of teaching, she educated and touched the hearts of many children. Her teaching career spanned the lives of multiple generations of children throughout the years.

Mrs. Roach loved to sail, ride bicycles, and work with the public. She spent many years on Mackinac Island, putting thousands of miles on her bicycle and thousands of smiles on the faces of many people. She spent many years with her children and grandchildren on Mackinac Island, giving them tours and sharing the history of the Island with them. She will be missed by her family and by everyone who ever had the pleasure of her acquaintance.

She is survived by her children, Roy Roach, Robert Roach, and Cathy Sprowl; grandchildren, Roy Roach, Rychel Roach, Matthew Birdsey, Tyler Roach, and Ryan Roach, and great-grandchildren, Dylan Birdsey and Steven Parrott.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roach was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Roach, and a brother, James Lefler, who died October 22, 2017.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18, at noon at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to time of the service at the church.
