Saints Hockey Squirts Compete; Midgets Start November 25

St. Ignace’s squirts hockey team fell to 0-7-1 with three losses and a tie over the weekend. In home games, St. Ignace lost 15-1 and 12-2 to Soo Big Bear. St. Ignace lost 10-1 to Cheboygan, but tied this team later 2-2 in games at Little Bear East Arena.

St. Ignace will play at home this weekend against Alpena and Sault Ste. Marie.

In the tie, Carter Kovacs had one goal and one assist, as did Garrett Martin, for St. Ignace.

After eight games, Dylan Shepard had eight points for St. Ignace with seven goals and one assist. Garrett Martin had two goals and three assists for five points.

The St. Ignace Midget team will have its first game Saturday, November 25, against Marquette U18.

Players for the midgets included Mason Gustafson, Andy Metz, Logan DeKeyser, Hunter DeKeyser, Reid Marshall, Joe Kelly, Riley Allen, Lane Matson, Dalton Zdebski, Nick O’Brien, Donovan Insley, Rave O’Neil, Dominick Pelaccio, Danielius Engle, Theo Smith, Zach Movalson, and Jayden Biron.

Eric Danielson is the team coach, and Jim Zdebski and Jim DeKeyser are assistants.

Mr. DeKeyser said the numbers total is favorable for the team.

“We’ve got some new kids,” he said.

“We’ve been full roster the last couple of years. We’re actually down a little bit,” added Mr. Zdebski. “We have a lot of young kids. We’re not an old team. We’re young. We have a lot of speed. That’s new for us. We won’t be the physical team we normally are.”

Midgets are 15 to 16 years old.
