Doris Haapala

Doris Haapala Doris Haapala Doris O. Haapala, 81, a lifelong resident of the Naubinway and Engadine area, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

She was born March 1, 1936, to Robert and Ina (nee Maki) Bryers in Newberry.

Mrs. Haapala was graduated from Newberry High School in 1954.

She married Charles Haapala August 29, 1959.

Mrs. Haapala was employed at First National Bank of St. Ignace. She retired as manager of First National Bank West Mackinac Branch in Naubinway.

She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine, where she served as volunteer bookkeeper for many years.

Mrs. Haapala enjoyed crocheting, baking, and quilting with her church friends.

She is survived by two children and their families, Cheryl and Gregg Belleville of Clinton Township and David and Krista Haapala of Traverse City, and four grandchildren, Evan Belleville, Colin Belleville, William Haapala, and Karoline Haapala.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Happala was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck”; two brothers, Ken Bryers and Jerry Bryers, and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Bryers.

A memorial service was held Monday, November 27, at 11:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine with Pastor Art Bode officiating. Visitation was from 10:30 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Inurnment will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bethlehem Ladies League in care of the church.

Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry assisted the family with arrangements.
