Straits Area Community Cantata To Include 40 Local Singers December 10

St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City will host the Straits Area Community Cantata Sunday, December 10, at 2 p.m. This year’s musical event will include 40 singers from Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, Indian River, Cheboygan, and Petoskey, who have been rehearsing since September. The cantata is under the direction of Gerry Lou Kania, and accompaniment will be provided by Kris Olson on keyboard, George Krawczyk on synthesizer, Brett Mallory on bass guitar, Lori Cleland on banjo and acoustic guitar, and Bill Mayhew on percussion. Special pre-concert music will also be provided by a brass quintet featuring Robert Heilman, Les Jackson, Jessica Rousseau, Ben Watkins, and George Tippett. Mr. Mallory will provide a prelude and postlude.

The performance will be a fundraiser to support both next year’s cantata and the Mackinaw Area Food Pantry. Visitors to the performance will be able to make a freewill offering to support both Cedarville causes.

The musical program will be followed by a reception with punch and cookies. Artwork created by Mackinaw City Public Schools students promoting the village’s Winterfest celebration in January will be on display. The Mackinaw City Area Arts Council is sponsoring the display.
