Rudyard Falls to Harbor Springs in Basketball

By John Raffel

Rudyard’s girls basketball team opened its season Tuesday, November 28, at Harbor Springs. It was a close game for most of the contest, but the Bulldogs lost 45-34.

The Bulldogs were up 8-6 after the first quarter and Harbor Springs led 15-13 at halftime. It was 26-23, Harbor Springs, after three quarters.

Harbor Springs was led by Madi Bezilla with 17 points and Emma Wagner.

“I’m happy,” Rudyard Coach Carlos Molina said. “I’m happy with my senior, Lane Clegg and junior Cierra Molina, and my daughter Cheseny Molina, who played well defensively and contributed five points coming off the bench as a freshman on the varsity level.

“We definitely have to work on all aspects of our game right now. It’s pretty rough coming off four practices going into our game. We had an extended volleyball season. The girls made a nice run and went into the quarterfinals. We’ve had a couple of girls injured. We’ve only had two practices with everybody there.”

The volleyball season for Rudyard ended in the quarterfinals November 14.

Coming up for Rudyard will be home games Friday, December 8, with St. Ignace and Monday, December 18, with Engadine. A road game is set for Friday, December 15, at Cedarville.
