Rudyard Swimmers Make Strong Start on Season

By John Raffel

Rudyard’s swim team competed in the Westwood Relays Saturday, December 2. A highlight for Rudyard was taking first in the mixed open 500-yard freestyle (6:41.85).

Rudyard was second in the girls 200-yard medley relay (2:20.87) and was third in the 400 freestyle relay (5:16.36). The Bulldogs took fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:43.06), and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2;25.12). Rudyard took a second place in the girls 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.78).

The Bulldogs were third in the 400-yard individual medley (5:17.31).

“I will say that the kids swam much stronger than anticipated,” Stephen Davis said. “We placed third or higher in every event except one, if I remember correctly. That is a big deal with only two returning swimmers. Our freshmen impressed not only myself, but several other coaches. It was a great positive start to the season.”

This Wednesday, December 6, Rudyard will host Sault Ste. Marie and Manistique in a tri-meet and Friday, December 8, will host the always dominant Houghton team.

“I couldn’t be happier with our start to the season,” Davis said.
