Sanding the steel pipe rail on the bridge requires agility and strength. A specially-equipped truck keeps air pressure at 120 pounds to blast sand at the structure. The powerful spray removes rust from the pipe rail, preparing it for the two coats of primer and a final coat of green paint. Charlie Harrington (back) monitors the sand and air pressure. The job requires Todd Mayer (right) and Larry Antkoviack to work in unusual positions as they sand the pipe rail. ![]() |
