Dick Hoolsema





Dick J. Hoolsema of Rudyard worked 35 years for Citgo Propane in Sault Ste. Marie, repairing propane appliances and furnaces. He served in the United States Army for four years. Mr. Hoolsema was 76 when he died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at his home.

He was born August 31, 1931, in Sault Ste. Marie, to John and Lena (nee Mast) Hoolsema.

A lifelong area resident, Mr. Hoolsema was graduated from Rudyard High School.

He married Audrey Joyce Postma September 14, 1942, in Rudyard.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rudyard. His personal ministry was to distribute Bibles.

Mr. Hoolsema enjoyed reading and riding his bicycle.

He is survived by three sons and their families, Timothy and Marilyn Hoolsema of Rudyard, Daniel and Gloria Hoolsema of Williamston, and Michael and Linda Hoolsema of Rudyard; two daughters and their families, Cindy and Tom Cooper of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Sheri Hoolsema of Rudyard; grandchildren Jessie and Travis Huisken, Erin Cooper, Jordan and Carlos Martinez, Jeremy Bloom, Justin and Natalie Hoolsema, Amanda Hoolsema, Hannah Cooper, Brittany Hoolsema, Emily Hoolsema, Blessing Hoolsema, Kaylee Hoolsema, and Austin Hoolsema, and one great-grandchild, Ethan Hoolsema. He is also survived by one brother and his family, Gerald and Ann Hoolsema of Rudyard; four sisters and their families, Henrietta Kamper of Grand Rapids, Ellen Heeres of Grand Rapids, Betty and Carl Botting of Ada, and Angie Hoolsema of Grand Rapids.

Mr. Hoolsema was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, one brother, Don Hoolsema, and two sisters, Margaret Timmer and Jean Postma.

Services will be Thursday, February 7, at the Christian Reformed Church in Rudyard. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Robert D. Steen will conduct the service.

Spring burial will be in North Rudyard Cemetery in Rudyard.

Memorials can be made to the Rudyard Christian School, 10702 West 17-Mile Road, Rudyard, Michigan 49780.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
