JAMES ANDRESS

James “Jimmy” Edward Andress Sr., age 59, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died at his home on May 23, 2023. He was born in St. Ignace on September 20, 1963, to Francis and Mary (Cadotte) Andress.

Jimmy lived in St. Ignace all his life and attended Mackinac Island High School in Mackinac Island, Michigan. He worked at the Mackinac Island State Park for a decade as well as at the Gough Livery Carriages and Jack’s Riding Stalls. He also worked in St. Ignace cooking at Big Boy Restaurant.

Jimmy loved learning and participating in the Native American Culture. He enjoyed making jewelry from beads, walking sticks, and canes. Most of all, he loved being a grandpa.

Jimmy is survived by his children, James (Jocelyn) Andress Jr. of St. Igance, David Andress of Mackinac Island, and Jessica Andress of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; grandchildren, Leah, Henry, and Gabriel; siblings, Marie Hutchins of St. Ignace, Deborah (Allen) Campbell of Sault Ste. Marie, Wanda (Richard) Miller of Bakersville, North Carolina, and Francis Andress Jr. of St. Ignace; uncle Carl (Cora) Andress of Hessel, Michigan, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary Andress; grandparents, Joseph and Ruby Andress, and Nicholas & Cecilia Cadotte; sister, Rose Kerr and nieces, Ruby Smith and Jennifer Foster.

His fire closing ceremony will take place Friday, May 26, 2023, at 5 PM.

A burial ceremony on Mackinac Island will be held on Jimmy’s birthday, September 20, 2023, at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
