The St. Ignace Area Schools bond proposal on the May 2 ballot passed in Mackinac County, with 424 yes to 247 no. The bond will generate $9.15 million for school improvements. The maximum millage to be levied is 2.9 mills over a maximum 30-year period; the anticipated actual is estimated to be 2.49 mills.
In the City of Mackinac Island annual municipal election, incumbents Steven Moskwa and Anneke Myers retained their seats. Challenger Steve Rilenge was unsuccessful in his bid for alderperson. Mr. Moskwa received the most votes with 224 ballots cast in his favor. Mrs. Myers received 213 votes. Mr. Rilenge received 153 votes.
Results from the election are unofficial until certified by the Mackinac County Board of Canvassers. Full results will be published in the next edition of The St. Ignace News.
